Joyce WoodPotterNovember 1 - December 31st
Joyce Wood started working with clay in 2006 after
years of working in other mediums. She is inspired by the freedom of the
clay, and the endless opportunities to create new and different shapes,
colours, and textures with all the various clays and glazes.
In 2009 Joyce graduated “With
Distinction” from St Lawrence College in Brockville with her Certificate
in Ceramics. However, “With pottery”, she says, “you can never stop
learning”, so she continues to attend courses and workshops whenever
possible.
“My work is always changing and
evolving as I experiment with new glazes, clay bodies, methods, or
forms. Every piece is different and I have not locked into one style
yet. Maybe I never will because I am having too much fun with all this
variety!
I love when
someone presents me with a problem and I can try to create a piece to
solve it. I have done projects such as a jewellery holder, a cream &
sugar to match an old set, and a maple syrup jug with a lid, all to
meet someone’s specific need. Also, I can do custom pieces for a special
gift or event. Of course, when I do these projects there is no
obligation to buy the piece – I enjoy doing it for the challenge, and if
it is not quite right it can always go into my inventory!”
All functional Beckett’s Landing
Pottery is food safe and can be used in the freezer, microwave, or oven –
however please don’t subject it to too much thermal shock or it may
break.
Garden art may survive outside year
round, however it is safer to store it in a protected dry place over the
winter. Some Raku pieces may not be water tight so be sure to check
with Joyce if you are in doubt.
